GIF Sundsvall - in English Welcome to the official website for Swedish football club GIF Sundsvall. The Sundsvall team nicknamed "Giffarna" managed to take the important step to reach the Allsvenskan after winning the 2nd division in 1999.
The 2005 season meant we´ve been represented in Allsvenskan 6 years in a row - a record for teams from Norrland, the northern part of Sweden. However, we were relugated and now we play in the 2nd division. (Superettan). In 2007 the club achived promotion taking us back in to the top flight again.
The club was founded in 1903 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in August 2003.
We are still waiting for our first championships title. Best result so far is: 5th, in 1988, and 7th, in 2004. GIF Sundsvall has won no cup titles yet.
In July 2004 the arena was equipped with artificial grass. The arena can also be used for conserts. The all time record event so far in the history of Sundsvall was being held in August 2004. 24 000 (!) attended the consert with the band Gyllene Tider. (Per Gessle from Roxette).
The record for a football game is from 1961 when 16 507 visited the arena to see GIF play Högadal. The capacity today is around 8 500.
Before the game & how to get to the arena If you arrive from abroad in Stockholm you can travel north to Sundsvall by car (4-5 hours, 400 km), by high speed train (3 hours and 15 minutes) or by bus (5 hours) or by air (45-50 minutes). The Sundsvall airport, Midlanda, is located 30 km north from Sundsvall. Buses are for sure the cheapest alternative but also the most uncomfortable option.
Before the home games, fans always get together at the O´learys sports bar. Fans gather 2 hours before kick off. O´learys is located on the Storgatan (main street).
The stadium (built 2001-2002) has a capacity to serve 8500 attendants and it is a visible landmark in the heart of Sundsvall.
You can buy your tickets by contacting GIF Sundsvall. Phone: 46-60-66 37 70 or visit the arena 2 hours before kick off on match day, where it may be possible to purchase non sold tickets. Welcome to our games!
